Week 7

Monday we had a very interesting visit from Mark- who works with the animals at Rainbow Springs. We learnt a lot from him, and the students asked some great questions.

Kronkiwongi- we have a few students who have taken up the challenge of building a Kronkiwongi. Initially we used the Kronkiwongi so the students could create better questions-and then get better information when they were writing their information reports.  

As an aside- Lego is running a competition to build a Kronkiwongi. We will take photos of the designs this week. 

We had a great day on Friday- the Wacky Hair designs were great. I was impressed at how much trouble people had gone to. Congratulations to Lily for winning with her fantastic creation.

Our Golden Time Options are going really well. The students have loved being able to get together with students from other classes in the Middle School, and I think it is really helping build us as a team. On Friday the students could either design their own Predator Trap, or design a nest for an egg in the Eggstraordinaire Challenge. Check out the photos on the post below.

St Mary's and St Michael's ran together for the Cross Country on the 22 May.

Well done to all the students who ran so well. We had a great day. Congratulations to Maddy for being First Year 3 Girl. Well Done.

Learning how to post google docs

When we post a Google Doc on our blogs we need to use some special steps.
First we open the Google Doc,
Click on file,
Click publish to the web
Click embed  and copy the link and (CtrlC)
Click OK.
We then go to blogger and choose new post.
Click on HTML
Paste the link (CtrlV)

Now the special part
After the first word <iframe  
add these words
width=100% height=600

Click on compose to have a look-
(hopefully you have done all the steps correctly

)
Click on publish to the web

Missing Case

Please can you check at home if your child has brought home a different chromebook case by mistake. It went missing when I was away last week. We are wondering if someone took it by accident. It is a black case with a white puffle- fluffy soft toy hanging on it.  It looks a little bit like this one.

Cooking Class

We are in the paper! Here is the article in the Rotorua Daily Post. On Thursday we were very lucky to have Loren Skudder-Hill come in and take 8 students from Room 14 for a cooking class.  The students had a great time and we would like to thank Loren and her mother for coming in to teach us and include us in her cookbook.  The cheesymite scrolls were delicious.

Week 6

Thank you to all the parents who helped with the Cross Country. The children had a great time and we were blessed with some great weather.  Congratulations to those who gained placings, results will be out soon. 

Don't forget the Healthy Lunch Competition- due this Friday- make a healthy lunch- take a photo, and write a paragraph about the healthy choices you have made.

Gargi's Bird Feeder

Gargi has taken some photos of the birds in her garden enjoying the bird feeder she made in GoldenTime /Options.

iMovies

We have been learning to make movies using iMovie on the iPad. We have created some Movie Trailers.
We had some great fun and have been working on our cooperation skills, working together and managing ourselves.
Here are some of the Movie Trailers that we made.

Marimba

Today Mrs Cato took some of the students and taught them to play a song on the Marimbas.
They learnt 3 songs in half an hour - this is one of them! 

They did learn that they could remember the order of the notes by "Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit" but they might remember it better if they think of "Every gross boy does farts!!"

The kids loved using google draw to show some music notes that we learnt to read. Here is Ella's drawing,

Viewing the Blog on Mobile Devices

Apologies to those parents who have been using mobile devices to use the class blog. I didn't realise that it was so hard to see. I have changed the way it looks on mobile devices, so hopefully it will be better.  Please let me know if it there are any issues.

Week 5

We had a great set of Golden Time/ Options on Friday.  The students were able to sign up for the option they wanted to do. Because we are tying the activities into our Concept learning we decided to run the Option/Golden Time Session from 11.30-12.30. The students were able to choose to make Periscopes or Bird Feeders. Both looked fantastic, and from what I saw the students had a great time changing classes and mixing with their friends. I saw some great Periscopes and very delicious- (for birds looking Bird feeders.)

Cross Country is this Friday.
St Michael's will be joining us for the Pentecost Mass and for the Cross Country. Years 3- 6 will be travelling to the Redwoods for the Cross Country.
We need some parent help for transport and for marshals around the track. I understand that some of you are unable to help- due to work and other commitments- Please let me know by Thursday if you can help. I have had 2 offers of help so far- so am still a bit short.
Let us pray for some fine weather.
